Venusia

Venusian World Sculpture Collection

Integrating a dominant body of Ehlenberger’s artwork is his interpretation of a fantasy luminous world of Venusia. A lifelong work-in-progress, his Venusian sculptures include multiple series of artworks that explore the landscapes as well as the flora and fauna of the Venusian world. Furthering the evolution of his Venusian work, Ehlenberger combines sculptures of different series to create a variety of “Venusian Gardens, ” including Swamp Gardens, Marsh Gardens and Rock Gardens.

Central to the concept behind the Venusian World is the system of interchangeable components of the work. The Venusian sculptures consist of separate components that are easily interchangeable and therefore allow for flexibility in design.

Venusian Jellyfish Series

Always on rotating display, exotic luminous neon and blown glass Venusian Jellyfish set a magical ambiance for the main gallery space. Known worldwide, the Jellyfish are in constant production at glassLight studio.

Venusian Landscape Series

This series of sculptures in Ehlenberger’s “Venusian World” explores fantasy Landscapes with luminous vegetation, glowing lakes and craggy mountains. The V. Landscapes incorporate such media as silicone, translucent paint on brushed aluminum and back-lit lenses to evoke an other-worldly ambience.

Venusian Botanica

The dominant body of work in the Venusian World Sculpture Collection are the sculptures representing the luminous plant life. These works are manifest in various series based on the blown glass, aluminum and neon components.

The individual sculptures can stand alone but are often combined in installations and as components of Venusian Gardens. They are designed to allow for floor and table presentations as well as wall mounted and hanging pieces. They are also incorporated as interchangeable components in tables.

Stalaglites

Stalaglites are single-ended neon tubes generally characterized by graceful curves of multi-colored, striped neon tubing, sometimes embellished with bubbles or other manipulations of the glass. While they can be incorporated into other elements of Venusian World sculptures such as a Venusian Garden or individual flower, they are designed to stand alone or in groups as singular entities not requiring other components.

A single Stalaglite standing alone offers a simple yet bold statement of luminosity providing a powerful presence in almost any environment.

When installed in groups or clusters, Stalaglites are unparalleled in creating an other-worldly ambiance. Imagine the impact of 100 multi-colored Stalaglites 5′ tall! (photos coming!)

The range of colors available runs the gamut of brilliant, jewel-like colors that demand attention to subtle glows that offer subdued and gentle reassurances in a quiet, dimly-lit environment.

Requiring only a base to provide power, they are easily assembled without tools or the need for additional wiring. This allows for ease in shipping as well as the ability to easily change the composition of the works.

Venusian Garden Sculptures

Ehlenberger’s interpretation of his “Venusian World” comes together in a variety of “Venusian Gardens,” including small, self-contained free-standing “Venusian Gardens” as well as small and large installations. This garden concept is continuously expanding into new and different realms with different components and different applications from personal home gardens to large scale commercial settings and stage set installations for dance performances.

At this time, there are three basic types of V. Garden sculptures: Marsh, Swamp and Rock Gardens. The Marsh Gardens are characterized by aluminum bases, the Swamp Gardens have bases incorporating glass underlit with neon and the Rock Gardens incorporate grey or black stones.

Venusian Sculpture Components

Central to the concept behind the Venusian World Sculpture Collection is the modular system of easily interchangeable components of the work. The neon tubes are wireless and are mounted in pyrex glass housings that enable each neon tube to be easily replaced or exchanged within any Venusian sculpture or garden without the need fior tools or re-wiring. In addition, the glass components of the flowers are also interchangeable. Finally, the bases that support the sculptures and gardens are designed to allow for different components and/or configuration of components so that each garden or component of a garden can be easily changed without the need for tools or wiring.
